Our Planet Song

During our Space unit we learned a song that helped the students learn all the planets in order. I thought I would share it with you:

There are eight planets in our solar system
There are eight planets in our solar system
Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune

There are eight planets in our solar system.

BLAST OFF into January!

We spent January learning all about outer space and the planets! The children really enjoyed the unit and were really excited!

The students started the unit by painting their own planets:

The dramatic play center was transformed into the Endeavor Spaceship. The students would put on their space suits, helmets and gloves and blast off into outer space!

There were a number of math games around the classroom that were Space themed. The students had to help get the Astronaut to the Moon and put the planets in order from 1-9.

The Planetarium came to visit during our Space unit. The students learned about the Sun, Moon and Earth. They also learned about Constellations like Orion's Belt.

The students made their own rocket ships using different shapes during circle time one morning.

Each student created their own constellation by connecting the stars from 1 to 10. This helped the students with number recognition. At the end the students got to name their constellations!

Through out our unit on Space the students got to paint different planets. The students painted Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Neptune and Uranus.

Preschool in December

In December we looked at the changes in the weather by doing units on snow and winter in the preschool classroom. At the end of the month we spent a week learning about different holidays celebrated during this time of the year.

The students read the book "The Snowy Day" by Ezra Jack Keats, then created their own sentences and illustrations about what they would do on a snowy day.

Through out the classroom we had many snow and holiday themed activities for the students to work on.

At one table the students created holiday cookies using rolling pins and cookie cutters. This was very popular in the classroom!

The students also completed many snowy paintings during the month of December. They used different materials to paint their own snowy scenes!
